Views from Here

We visited with Carrie today. It's her birthday, so we made cards and brought the birthday ring along. I wrapped up a quart of red raspberries from the freezer, since her own patch didn't produce well this year.  Her garden is beautiful, no less, and we spent most of our time outside in it.

Birthday Gardener

In typical fashion, she gave us the gifts. Half a gallon of calendula blooms, zinnia bouquets, Summer squash, the promise of tomatoes for canning, A Kid's Herb Book, lavender essential oil, basil and lemon balm for our tea.

Harvest

Needless to say, I've got my work cut out for me this afternoon.  The salve is done, the blooms are simmering for dye, and the basil is soaking and waiting for pesto.  I've to two little people sleeping.  It's time to get back to work (and use the blender on the back porch!).

A Blessed Wilderness

It was just like being in heaven, being in there. In those days there was no road. The park was all a blessed wilderness. I have often thought what a wonderful people we would have been if we had wanted to keep it that way.
