Crafting On :: For Beauty

There's been a resolution at our house--we shall have beauty even in difficult times.  There will be flowers and bits of nature.  We will make simple, beautiful meals using our food stores to their fullest.  I will make beautiful things and enjoy the beauty of our special place.  To that end, I've been knitting little things lately, using up scraps and making animals from Toymaking with Children.  It's really a great book.  I got it used and cannot recommend it enough.

First up, a pig.  Doesn't look like much, I know.

And a sheep.

And a pile of kitty parts.
Part of me is nervous to stuff them and part of me is torn about whether to save them for Christmas.
Hence, the unstuffed-ness.
Still, it will be so neat to see them take shape!

Another watercolor lantern for a friend.
I get to paint on Mondays, too, so I can have my own paper for projects.
I'm just loving the new colors of paint this year.
They're more vivid in person: more gold, more red, and more deeply blue.

Oxcart Trio

And lastly, an Oxcart Man trio for the Cozy Spot.
I really love using old book and calendar pages to decorate seasonally.
We're working on all sorts of rearrangements and decluttering around here (Mike, especially) and I hope to share our new spaces soon.

Thanks for your kind words! I will have to search for the lanterns, too. Sometimes this blog is easy to search and sometimes, not. I'll leave you a reply here when I sort it out. :-)

What great knitted toys! I'll have to check out that book; I love making toys. I think in a few months, when Gnarly has had a lot of practice, we can make this.

Such lovely lanterns, and pretty colors. I love seeing what you make.

A Blessed Wilderness

It was just like being in heaven, being in there. In those days there was no road. The park was all a blessed wilderness. I have often thought what a wonderful people we would have been if we had wanted to keep it that way.
