A Homemade Halloween

Jack O'Lanterns

We're all up early this morning, despite that extra hour of sleep we're supposed to enjoy.  I washed the dishes from our Halloween party and the children had candy for breakfast.  Since they only visited five houses, it's really not so bad.  Once a year, I say, and it helps us all to feel better about the super-early wakeup time.  We had a good time last night, but we were all so tired.  Jody and Kathering and Chloe joined us, along with Mike's younger older sister.  There were candles and laughter and wild children and cider.  It was good, but I am looking forward to the quiet waiting of November and the simple reverence of our lantern walk.  And Laurel's birthday, which seems like a funny afterthought following all this festivity.  Still, a quiet birthday is best for the very young (us grown people who look after them, too), so that it what we will do.

Sounds like a fun party, but I understand wanting some downtime now! Parties take a lot out of me.

A Blessed Wilderness

It was just like being in heaven, being in there. In those days there was no road. The park was all a blessed wilderness. I have often thought what a wonderful people we would have been if we had wanted to keep it that way.
