Christmas Views

What a week it has been.
So full and so loud and so irreverent.
And yet, small moments of wonder.
That is life, I suppose.

As usual, I have a lot of thoughts about this time of year.
Also as usual, here is the cardinal ornament.
I love it so much.

Tree Trimming

We decorated our tree on Christmas Eve.
I really liked doing that way and I think everyone else did, too.

I have my sights set on a tree with real candles next year.

We had over 24 hours to ourselves without outside obligations.
It was the first time ever and it was so nice.

I recently read something about the days near Christmas or the Solstice
being some of the very darkest ones, spiritually.
I can see that.
I felt the weight all week as I watched numerous people around me
struggle with some really heavy issues.

Thankfully, I can see and feel that spirits have been lifted since then.
I can also see one candle that was blown out on the Advent ring.

It's seventy degrees today.
The windows are open and Willow is weaving on the porch swing.
She talks to herself while she works.

We have a prayer that asks "may I be the one who will work with my hands."
In our world that is increasingly caught up in digital materialism,
working with our hands is a counterculture idea.

Exchanging Gifts

Willow tells me she needs company.
Talking and doing, she says.
Well, I'm hoping 2016 will be the year of connection.
Time to get on it.

Merry Christmas to you guys! I'm glad you had some time by yourselves.

I think N has the same dress Willow is wearing in the family picture! I love it.

Merry Christmas! I love that dress, too. Such sweet fabric. Why do they not make these for grownups?

Oh, just spied Willow's new skirt in the bottom picture!

I love dresses like that. Simple, cute, comfortable (N sleeps in hers often), pretty, colorful, practical. And both modern and old-fashioned.

A Blessed Wilderness

It was just like being in heaven, being in there. In those days there was no road. The park was all a blessed wilderness. I have often thought what a wonderful people we would have been if we had wanted to keep it that way.
