Springtime in Noisy Village

Here we are, almost to May Day (a Summery beginning, of sorts), and I am just now remembering these pictures I took back in the Winter.  Oh, well, it is frosty here this morning, so I feel certain that it is not too far into Spring.  The covers felt thin in bed, as I had taken off the wool blanket, and I had to get up to turn on the furnace.

Let's move on to this sweet book.  I waited for months to find a copy, because I just really love picture books and Noisy Village.

Springtime 1

Here you can see all the children of Noisy Village:
Lisa, Britta, Anna, Karl, Bill, Olaf, and little Kerstin.
She's a little like Laurel, or all baby sisters.

Springtime 3

This book is largely about everyone looking after her and her "awluffy wild" adventures.
She picks flowers she shouldn't, handles a hedgehog, and falls in a mud puddle.
But, Olaf loves her dearly, even though Karl says, "little children should be locked up in Springtime."

Springtime 4

Lisa has a baby goat to care for in this story, too.
I think these pictures really capture life with lots of young children.
It can be a circus sometimes!

Springtime 5

At one point, they take dares to do dangerous things.
You can see Britta's mother yelling out the window for her to get down!
I love the sense of humor in these books.

Springtime 6

At the end, one of the fathers builds a fire for the children and they dance around it. Kerstin confirms that Springtime makes the children "awluffy wild." I would agree.

Now, time to make a pot of Cream of Wheat an knock the chill off this morning!

Oh yay for sharing that book! I was literally JUST shopping for that on amazon and trying to decide it it's worth the big price to buy it used ($30!). I'm still not sure, but I like seeing what's inside. It's nice to know that it's original material at least. I wasn't sure, because sometimes there are picture books published that are really just excerpts of longer books.

I hear that. I think I got mine on thriftbooks and I paid $18. It's still high, but better. ;-) Try putting on a wishlist and they'll let you know when they get a copy. This was listed as acceptable, but I think it's in better condition. If you have Christmas in Noisy Village (still in print), it's original material for the most part. Certainly easier to find.

A Blessed Wilderness

It was just like being in heaven, being in there. In those days there was no road. The park was all a blessed wilderness. I have often thought what a wonderful people we would have been if we had wanted to keep it that way.
