Crafting On :: Open-Ended

The past week has found me wanting to make open-ended toys for the children--things that could really be anything for the cold months ahead.  I can't help but feel like Fall is slipping away from me too quickly, though we are not yet a month in!

Log Train

My dad planed some logs for a train from Toymaking with Children.
The wool for the smoke was Roan's addition.
Mike said, "Isn't that my apple wood for the smoker?"

Party Crowns

We made crowns for the upcoming birthday festivities.
A half birthday and two full birthdays will be celebrated this weekend.

Chair Labels

I made signs for the chairs, in part to ease the transition for Roan to a regular chair.
It's worked well and it always cheers me to see the symbols we chose.

I sewed up a dozen bean bags last week, using the plethora of beans I have.

Beanbag beds

They make wonderful beds, as you can see,
and I look forward to seeing what else they will be.

Kindergarten Buns

We made kindergarten buns from The Waldorf Book of Breads.
These are very tasty and they handled being mushed lots by little hands.

Halloween hat

And lastly, a Halloween hat for our almost birthday girl.

That is a really cool train, Roan! Anna wants some dolly bean bag beds, too, after seeing yours. :) I actually have some old beans someone gave me... hmmm.

They were really fast to sew up, even with being climbed upon. ;-) They're supposed to be one of our kindergarten crafts, but I think I will save them for later in the year.

A Blessed Wilderness

It was just like being in heaven, being in there. In those days there was no road. The park was all a blessed wilderness. I have often thought what a wonderful people we would have been if we had wanted to keep it that way.
