We celebrated a quiet first birthday yesterday, a slow sort of day with an undercurrent of jubilation.

Wafer Baby

Laurel almost slept through our special roast beef lunch, but she woke up just in time for dessert, which was pumpkin truffles.  She enjoyed a vanilla wafer.  Our plans had been for a birthday banana, along the lines of Roan's birthday apple.  We'll do it today.  I chose an angel candle holder for her first birthday gift, planning it as something she can keep through the years.  She can take it with her when she moves in across the street with Willow and Roan.  At least, that's their plan right now.

Yesterday was Mike's first full payday, too. We went to Earth Fare to stock up on a few Weleda things and some Christmas tea.  Mike kept telling me, all the while, that it was okay to buy things as I kept debating over each choice, even with some really good coupons in hand.  We had burritos for supper and came home following the full Frost Moon.

A Blessed Wilderness

It was just like being in heaven, being in there. In those days there was no road. The park was all a blessed wilderness. I have often thought what a wonderful people we would have been if we had wanted to keep it that way.
