Martinmas Views

This is the most involved Martinmas we have had.
It was simple, but enough, and that is as good as a feast.
We read the story of St. Martin sharing his cloak and the chidlren made a play.

Martinmas Play

Then we enjoyed St. Martin's little summer, as some call it.
Our weather has matched the supersitions perfectly this year.

Feet on the path

We took a little walk on the River Walk with Carrie.
She can make any patch of land seem full of treasures to be discovered.

Golden Beech

The sun was bright and warm.
Most of the leaves are gone, but the beech trees were absolutely glowing.

Grape Vine Horse

We found a large old grapevine that was perfect for a horse ride.

And nothing would do, nothing, but that Laurel had to be on the ground crawling.

Tree Huggers

Roan learned about which trees to hug--not ones with big, furry poison ivy vines!
Carrie was happy to show him a tree they could all safely hug.

We took our lantern walk with Becky and it was a perfect night.

Walking with our lanterns

Holding a lantern on a stick is a contracting activity,
which means it can be frustrating sometimes.
It went well!

On the table

Now, we're going to enjoy one last warmish day before settling into the work of Winter.
Martin rides in on a white horse, it's said!

I like to say that I have a season pass to things--there's always next time. We didn't do jack o'lanterns this year for lack of time (and my not wanting to stick my hand in a cold wet pumpkin). But, yes, it does help to circle the year around. :-)

A Blessed Wilderness

It was just like being in heaven, being in there. In those days there was no road. The park was all a blessed wilderness. I have often thought what a wonderful people we would have been if we had wanted to keep it that way.
