Waiting up for the New Year

I was up in the night, borrowing worry, and "Great is Thy Faithfulness" came into my head. I think this is my theme for the year, and the very big lesson from last year. Morning by morning, new mercies, and all we have needed has been provided.  Just look at these abundant views from our little house as we sent out the old year.

In bed

All the babies in bed by the children's tree.
Willow wanted to take it down, but Roan didn't.
I moved it to the cozy spot and they happily redecorated it there.
I wonder if it will stay up all Winter.  I hope so.

Softening wax

This one is for Ginger, lover of Pyrex.
Here's one thing we use ours for.
I put boiling water inside to to soften modeling wax.
And then I put a meatlaof in it.

Candle spiral

We rolled some candles from Willow's birthday kit.
They have been lighting our way through the Twelve Days.
I love the little spiral inside.
We've gone toward the light, received it,
and now it is time to spread it to the world.

Nap under the pink play cloth

I made a little tent for Roan at quiet time and he took his nap inside.

In the tunnel

We had a little tunnel time yesterday, using the learning tower.
I don't really use it as a helping stool anymore,
but it's hard to pass on something of this size.
Maybe someday I'll have that children's garden to use it in?

Tunnel View

Setups like this are great fun for the children, but very challenging for Willow.
Roan is the master of destruction sometimes, bless his heart.

Ranger badge

Having lost over twenty pounds this past year, I can wear clothes that haven't fit in a long time.
I decided to start wearing my wool ranger jacket and agreed to Smokey's rules.
You can't wear this badge when you're using uniforms for personal clothing.
Roan was thrilled to take them off my hands.

Her new game

Laurel has a new game and she giggles hysterically.
She puts on this hat of mine and navigates the house with her head covered.
It's been ten years nearly to the day since I got it.
My last year in college, Mike and I spent the Twelve Days in Italy with the concert choir.
We sang in drafty cathedrals and ate lots of pizza.
I was never so cold in my life, wool long underwear and all.

Protecting the tree

The uses for the rocking boat never cease.
Laurel held out a long time,
but the last day of the year found her splashing in the water under the tree.

Waiting up for the New Year

We celebrated New Year's Eve by having nuts, apple slices, and fish crackers.
The excitement over this just about made us all crazy.
They wanted to be just like the children in Noisy Village.
I did, too.

A Blessed Wilderness

It was just like being in heaven, being in there. In those days there was no road. The park was all a blessed wilderness. I have often thought what a wonderful people we would have been if we had wanted to keep it that way.
