Christmas in July Views

Weekends are so full here.  We try to pack in lots of family time, chores that have been needing attention, good meals together and some relaxation.  It is a difficult balance that we are still trying to work out and this weekend, despite some very good quiet times, was still pretty high energy in our own simple way.  I got some sewing done, too, and finally got some pictures of completed handwork projects for Crafting On tomorrow.

The Second Tooth

Willow lost her second tooth.  She was happy to see it go, I think.  We haven't done a lot of fanfare about lost teeth, or a lot of materialism.  She received a ballet leotard and shoes  (thanks, Tanya!) for her first tooth, but this one was just putting it under the pillow and sending it away with the angels.  Willow feels certain that other babies get to use her teeth when she is done with them.

Christmas in July 15

Willow and I made cookies Saturday during quiet time and served them yesterday at our meal with the Hanshews.  It was a wild evening, with two one year olds (who were the quiet ones), and the bigger children.  It was also terribly hot, but everyone had a good time.  The Christmas tree cake wouldn't come out of the pan, but I was able to freeze it and pry it out with my fingers.  I had oiled and floured the pan very carefully, but it just wasn't enough.  Let that be a lesson that cooking spray absolutely has its place in the kitchen, just like butter-flavored Crisco.

July Ornaments 15 I

The rest of the evening was quiet and we went to bed, happily leaving the covers off.  It's cooler this morning and I am so glad.  I am looking forward to getting back to the weekday routines, though Mike does have to travel much less this week.  It will be nice to have him here to reach those high blackberries.

July Ornaments 15 II

Time for me to take down the Christmas in July trees, but one last pause to enjoy these decorations Willow made.

July Ornaments 15 III

I'm setting up the play kitchen before everyone wakes up. We've had it put away for several months, but it feels like the time is right. As we enter High Summer, more indoor play is a must. Just like Winter.

Congrats to Willow on her second tooth! Gnwrly has the same theory of teeth going to new babies.

Those cookies sure look good! And Willows ornaments are too sweet.

A Blessed Wilderness

It was just like being in heaven, being in there. In those days there was no road. The park was all a blessed wilderness. I have often thought what a wonderful people we would have been if we had wanted to keep it that way.
