First Grade Versus Kindergarten

Pardon the bright sunshine, but I wanted to document the difference between Grade One and Kindergarten for Enki.  It's big!  And these notebooks are quite full!  Early years for both Enki and Waldorf delay academics, but the grades bring something very different for the children.  Grade One still allows time for play and learning in this style is very pleasant, but it's a lot of preparation to pull it off.  Enki comes with something they call a "resource library," which means that everything is included in their materials and the parent chooses what will best meet and nurture the child.  There are numerous DVDs showing children in classroom and homeschool settings, as well, which have been invaluable to me as I try to visualize the year ahead.  Speaking of, it's time to use my afternoon break getting ready for next week!

This is a lot to sift through, for sure. But, it also means I can choose things that will suit each child as they go through the years. Enki does offer some basic plans (which things to cover in each block) and then you choose the fairy tales, etc. to make it happen.

A Blessed Wilderness

It was just like being in heaven, being in there. In those days there was no road. The park was all a blessed wilderness. I have often thought what a wonderful people we would have been if we had wanted to keep it that way.
