Crafting On :: On Small Silent Feet

It feels like a quick slide to the end of the year now.  Thanksgiving and then Advent and then all the days that fill the time until Christmas.  I did my Thanksgiving baking (and a little Christmas, too) this past weekend.  Here's my hickory nut pie, with twice the nuts of usual.  It is wonderful to have a free local source of nuts and even more wonderful of my friend Carrie to crack them for me.  I know this pie is greatly anticipated and will be well-received by Mike's family.  It's in the freezer, along with a pumpkin pie, until we make our trip to see them.

In other news, the Tomten is done at last!
Putting it on, Roan immediately took on a Tomten sort of walk.

I have been having trouble keeping our little boy in warm enough clothing,
but I think it will be easier now that he has his new sweater.

Here it is with his Tomten hat and the Tomten blakdove made him.
A babywearing Tomten, or a Tomten-wearing Tomten.

I am pleased with how it turned out. It should fit next year, too.  It is unblocked right now, but I feel like it would stretch out more when I do block it.  Garter stitch is so stretchy.  I love this nearly seamless jacket pattern.  I can see that I wove in an end on the wrong side, but that's okay.  The recipient doesn't mind a bit.

I've started on Tomten mittens now, of course, to match his hat.  I've got two pairs in mind to make this week, on two needles.  A nice break after making sleeves on four.

Ooooooo! Roan's Tomten jacket turned out so nice! I love the color and button choice. And, that hickory nut pie sure looks yummy. I don't think I've ever had hickory nuts.

This was a horrible year for my family, but I still do not like the idea of the rest of the year just sliding away. But, it will. I have so much to do!

Thanks! I wish I could send pies to all my friends. :-)

I'm sorry you've had such a hard year. It was like that here, from March 2014 to March 2015. I feel like I am still recovering.

Oh didn't it turn out wonderfully well - it's a gorgeous colour and I love that everything is Tomten!

A Blessed Wilderness

It was just like being in heaven, being in there. In those days there was no road. The park was all a blessed wilderness. I have often thought what a wonderful people we would have been if we had wanted to keep it that way.
