Crafting On :: Red Overalls

I made the sweetest corduroy overalls last week.  I happened to find this fabric on my shelves and I was so glad!  This is my personal solution to toddlers shedding clothes in cooler weather.  I used the same pattern I did for Willow and Roan, just downsized.  Sewing patterns, at least old ones, are chronically oversized.  The three-year old size fits Roan generously, for instance.  I wasn't sure how these would turn out, but I modeled them after some overalls she has and I was pleasantly surprised.

The fit perfectly and are perfectly childproof (for my two-year old).  They are also wonderfully festive and durable.  The straps have plenty of length for growth over the Winter.  I did fusible interfacing on all parts of the bib (if you want to call it that) and the buttonholes feel very solid, even after washing.  As you can see, they are suitable for all occasions, especially serving tea at a Christmas party.

I've got a blue pair cut out and waiting, along with some more pajamas, some flannel pants, and a skirt for Willow.  I'm hoping today will be a sewing day once the frost melts (I work on my uninsulated, enclosed back porch).  I'm thankful for the frost, though, and am ready for the cold weather to set in once and for all.

Thanks! I need to mail you the sleeping bag. I was worried it was too light, but the weather seems to be so mild.

A Blessed Wilderness

It was just like being in heaven, being in there. In those days there was no road. The park was all a blessed wilderness. I have often thought what a wonderful people we would have been if we had wanted to keep it that way.
