The Apothecary

Any time the weather is even slightly mild, you can find the older children outside with mortars and pestles, collections of pine needles and hemlock cones, and various rocks.  They makes all sorts of remedies, pretending to be Rosemary Gladstar or Victorian pharmacists.  Yesterday was sunny and almost truly warm and the bulk of our after-lesson time was spent outside.  Today, well, more rain and wind and a bit of snow!

A Blessed Wilderness

It was just like being in heaven, being in there. In those days there was no road. The park was all a blessed wilderness. I have often thought what a wonderful people we would have been if we had wanted to keep it that way.

~Adolph Murie, biologist, on Denali
