Play Views

The children opened a dress shop last week, inspired by some of my old dresses that we brought home from the Old Davis Homeplace.  My mother longed for a little girl to dress up in ruffles and I was anything but that.  Willow seems to be quite the opposite.  It is a blessing to be able to sew and make her nice clothes that reflect her taste. Setting up the shop helped me to see just how many dresses and bonnets we have--it's a lot! Roan is getting some wardrobe improvements this week, to bulk up the men's section.

Dress Shop 1

These dresses are a size four, but it's a very short four!  Laurel is wearing them now, at age two.

Dress Shop 2

We were given a good size collection of lace collars, too.  I wish I could wear them, in some ways.

Dress Shop 3

In other play news, we made butternut squash soup and read the beloved Tawny Scrawny Lion.

Cauldron 1

This is Willow's cauldron of soup.

Cauldron 2

In some ways, I still feel like a bit of a play therapist. Roan is still struggling, at times, even though he has made a lot of progress. He can ride a two-wheeled bike with pedals and tie his shoes now. Kindergarten, I think, will be such a balm to him. There are still some things to attend to before our September 1st start date, and we are all getting anxious.

Oh, those dresses (and lace collars) are precious! How wonderful to have those. I am loving Willow's cauldron of soup; that is just perfect. Play is the best medicine, after all. :) - Stacey

A Blessed Wilderness

It was just like being in heaven, being in there. In those days there was no road. The park was all a blessed wilderness. I have often thought what a wonderful people we would have been if we had wanted to keep it that way.
